Professional Services Fellows get together

Mar 15, 2015

Some of the young people who attend Making The Leap’s workshop go on to train in our Professional Services programme. We coach them through the intense application process for Higher Level Apprenticeships or Graduate Schemes at some of the country’s top firms, and many of them successfully attain some amazing opportunities. We recently met up for dinner with some Fellows who are now working for PwC, which we do every couple of months to find out how they’re getting on.

It’s not just about catching up on their progress: it’s also a great chance for all our Fellows to meet each other. They’re at varying stages of their career. Some are in the final interview stages, others have recently been offered positions, whilst others have been working at PwC for a while. It means that those more senior can offer advice and reassurance to those at earlier stages, and can provide friendly faces to those about to commence their roles. They can share their experiences, which could make all the difference in those scary first few weeks in a new office. They are all doing well and are fantastic representatives of the charity.

We are seeing them continue to grow in confidence, and were happy to hear about their various achievements, including passing their exams. One has even been given a solo project in his first six months: something unheard of for those on the scheme! Needless to say, we are very proud of them all and it’s truly inspirational to consider their on-going social mobility journeys which we helped them begin. Nkem- whose success story you can read here– shared with us what these catch-ups mean to him… ‘To meet up from time to time is important to me, as I think it is the most effective way for us to say thank you for the positive influence Making the Leap continues to have on our lives.

For example, though we do not see each other everyday, most days I have you guys at the back of my mind guiding the decisions I make – you are all as important to me as family or friends one has known for tens of years.’
