A Social Mobility Business Seminar, sponsored by Milkround, will be held in Central London on Tuesday 19th March to officially launch the UK Social Mobility Awards 2019, in association with Capita. The keynote speaker will be Nadhim Zahawi MP, Parliamentary Undersecretary of State for Children and Families, and there will be a panel discussion around the business case for social mobility.

A case study report of the 2018 UK Social Mobility Awards, compiled by CSI Nuffield, will also be launched at the event, giving companies plenty of inspiration for entering in 2019. Those who are interested in entering the 2019 awards or are developing social mobility initiatives – however big or small – within their own companies, are invited to attend the seminar. We spoke to Georgie Brazier, Marketing Manager of Milkround, to find out why this seminar is so important.

How does Milkround seek to advance social mobility, both within the organisation and externally?
Milkround is always looking for new ways we can help other organisations to advance social mobility – we have a huge audience of students and graduates and it’s important we listen to them. We therefore survey our candidates every year on various topics which, in turn, allows us to help employers shape their recruitment strategies and enable them to think more about their social mobility strategies.

Why are the UK Social Mobility Awards so important?
The UK Social Mobility Awards are so important for recognising how companies are tackling issues and changing their processes to enhance social mobility in the workplace. It also encourages and inspires other companies to think about what they could be doing differently.

What are the business benefits of social mobility, and of Milkround sponsoring the awards?
Milkround wants to encourage social mobility to all of our clients, and we are always there to support them along the way. We’ve just completed a campaign with Access Accountancy where we went and hosted workshops at schools in low-socio economic areas across the country, inspiring them to think about a career in the industry, explaining to them that they have so many options and paths – you don’t have to be an expert in Maths! Also that these companies and firms are extremely open and encouraging applications from a diverse range of students.

What can we expect from the Social Mobility Business Seminar?
The Social Mobility Business Seminar will enable like-minded businesses and people to come together and understand why they should enter the awards. I believe it will be a fantastic and eye-opening morning.
