Our Programmes
What can we do for you?
We facilitate programmes aimed at both young adults (18-30) and schools (11-18), to help them gain the skills and confidence they need to progress in their future career.
To do this, we partner with businesses to provide industry insights, mentoring, expert advice and more.
We believe that our direct delivery, alongside advocacy and partnerships, is what sets us apart. At our core, we exist to serve young people directly – helping to provide face-to-face support from day one until long after our programmes end.
"Making The Leap really showed me how I can keep things professional and still show my personality at the same time. They have a lot of little tips that you should take throughout your career... I'd recommend MTL to everybody."
Bryan Tamkam, Making The Leap Fellow
Young Adults
Skills, confidence and employability
We help young adults (18-30) develop in their future careers by building confidence, developing skills and providing them with opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise have access to.
How do we do this? By providing hands on, practical programmes to help young adults learn to put their best foot forward. Crucially, we increase their chances of gaining employment.
Currently, 91% of graduates from our programme are in an employment, education, or training opportunity within six months, and many of the young adults we have supported are now working – and thriving – at some of the country’s top companies.

ACE is our key intensive programme developed for young adults aged 18-30.
The three-week programme offers coaching in the soft skills needed to succeed in the workplace, as well as presentation skills, business ideas, and tips for CV, job applications and interview tips.
Be it securing a career, apprenticeship or university opportunity – we instil confidence and foster professional development.
Ongoing mentorship punctuates everything we do. For as long as is needed after the programme, we deliver regular 1-1 support to provide assistance in goal setting, career exploration, job application advice and feedback.
"Before Making The Leap, I wasn't optimistic. Application after application, rejection after rejection. MTL's ACE Programme taught me to evaluate myself, the importance of presentation skills, and much more. My current job at Sky is undoubtedly thanks to the valuable lessons I learned at MTL."
Kevin Sterling, MTL Fellow and Platform Control Engineer at Sky
Why soft skills matter
- Confidence
- Communication
- Responsibility
- Poise
- Integrity
- Motivation
- Responsiveness

- Aspiration
- Determination
- Resilience
- Teamwork
Soft skills are traits and interpersonal skills that characterise a person’s ability to interact effectively with others. In the workplace, soft skills are considered to be a complement to hard skills, which refer to a person’s knowledge and technical skills.
In a competitive job market, your soft skills may be the key feature that sets you apart from others, and make you more employable.
Children from more advantaged families traditionally benefit from exposure to advanced soft skills, and these have been shown to influence recruitment to the top professions.
So, we want to address that imbalance. Developing these skills in young people from less advantaged socio-economic backgrounds is the very essence of what we at Making The Leap do, and have done for over 30 years.
