A trainee solicitor from Wimbledon is taking on the London Marathon on Sunday 26 April 2026 to raise money for social mobility charity Making The Leap.
Lauren Walton, 30, decided to take on the iconic marathon which takes runners across Tower Bridge and past Big Ben because she is passionate about helping to achieve social mobility and raising funds and more awareness for Making The Leap.
Despite recently breaking her wrist, which raised uncertainty about whether she could still take part, Lauren is still taking on this huge challenge. Although her training was paused for several weeks, Lauren has still managed to run an impressive 130 miles in preparation for the marathon since starting her training in January.
Lauren is looking forward to taking on The London Marathon for Making The Leap
She says, ‘I’m really excited to be taking on this physical challenge and having Making The Leap as motivation really inspires me to keep on top of training, fundraise and participate in the challenge event itself. I’m passionate about helping to achieve social mobility and using my privilege and platform to do so. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to run the London Marathon to raise more funds and awareness for MTL. This is my first marathon so I’m a little nervous, but mostly excited for this opportunity’.
Making The Leap has been changing lives since 1993 and is dedicated to creating brighter futures. The charity supports young people from less-advantaged socioeconomic backgrounds to unlock their potential, giving them the confidence, skills, and opportunities they need to succeed. Through its transformative programmes, the charity helps young people to believe in themselves, aim higher, and build the futures they deserve.
Lauren’s employer, Howard Kennedy LLP, is backing her all the way. Irena Molloy, Executive Director, said, ‘We’re incredibly proud of Lauren for taking on such a huge challenge in support of our charity partner Making The Leap. Her dedication reflects the values we champion at Howard Kennedy, and we’re all behind her as she trains for the London Marathon this April. Her commitment to helping create opportunities for young people is truly inspiring.’
Lucy Pryce, Head of Development at Making The Leap, said, ‘We’re delighted to have Lauren taking part in the London Marathon in support of Making The Leap and are looking forward to cheering her on every step of the way. We are also incredibly grateful for our partnership with Howard Kennedy and their continued commitment to creating opportunities for young people.
‘With every mile Lauren completes, she is helping to transform the lives of young people from less advantaged socio-economic backgrounds. Thanks to supporters like Lauren, we’re working towards a future where every young person, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to thrive, succeed, and shape their own path in life.’
