Your future starts here: expert advice to help you succeed as your authentic self

Jun 9, 2026

Everybody who signs up for our ACE Programme, and completes the three-week workshop, receives ongoing mentorship and for as long as they need it. Our support includes 1-1 support in goal setting, career exploration, job application advice and feedback.

Here, our Progressions Manager, Elaine, and Progressions Coach, Reema, share their top tips on how to take the first steps into employment and navigate what comes next.

Keep an open mind about where your career could take you

Elaine: “Don’t limit yourself to the careers you already know about. Be open to exploring different industries, roles and employers that might be new to you. The more you explore, the more likely you are to discover a career path that matches your interests, strengths and ambitions. You may find opportunities you never realised existed.”

Don’t change who you are, simply polish how you present yourself

Reema “Young people shouldn’t feel they need to erase their accent, background or personality to succeed. The key is learning how to present yourself professionally while staying authentic.”

Bring your full self into interviews and the workplace

Elaine: “What you do outside work, where you come from and what matters to you can all help to set you apart. Sharing those parts of yourself can make you more memorable, relatable and confident.”

Develop your emotional intelligence

Reema: “In a world increasingly shaped by AI, human skills matter more than ever.

Understanding different perspectives, being adaptable, communicating effectively and building strong connections with others will help you stand out and succeed throughout your career.”

Own your experience and learn how to talk about it

Elaine: “Your education, part-time jobs and life experience all build valuable skills. Success often comes from recognising what you already bring and being able to communicate it clearly and confidently.”

Build relationships and find spaces where you can thrive

Reema: “A key professional skill is understanding who you’re speaking to and how best to connect with them. Career success isn’t just about what you know it’s also about who you connect with and where you feel you belong. Be open to meeting new people and learning from others. Look for workplaces where you can be yourself, feel valued and have the support to grow.”
