Inaugural awards to promote and increase social mobility in Britain

Making The Leap are delighted to announce the launch of the UK’s first Social Mobility Awards, designed to recognise and celebrate companies and individuals across the UK who have demonstrated commitment and delivered programmes to improve social mobility.

All young people deserve an equal chance to succeed. Social mobility aims to make that ambition a reality by opening up academic routes and career journeys for young people from less well-off backgrounds.  If this ambition becomes a reality, bright and talented young people from all backgrounds will be represented equally across all professions, providing Britain with a more diverse workforce and benefitting society as a whole.

Through our work we have seen first-hand the people and the organisations who are making great strides in this space. That’s why we have created the UK Social Mobility Awards. We wanted to recognise and celebrate these efforts, to encourage action amongst other companies, and to promote the issue of social mobility so that it becomes embedded within business and organisational procedures. Those who enter will be able to display their achievements, get invaluable media exposure, become leaders in this field and promote best practice across the UK.

The prestigious judging panel is made up of leading figures from business, politics, charity and the public sector. We are thrilled that the panel will be chaired by Ken Olisa OBE. They will be announcing the winners at the UKSMA Awards Gala, which is to be held on Thursday 12th October 2017 in Mayfair.

We invite you to take a look at the newly-launched website – the-uksma.org – which contains further information on the awards, as well as how to apply, and will be regularly updated with latest news. There are also a range of sponsorship opportunities – an excellent way to position your brand as a champion of social mobility. Nominations open on 30th January: don’t miss out on the chance to become one of the first winners of the UK Social Mobility Awards.
