Making The Leap’s 5th Annual Gala

May 5, 2015

Our 5th Annual Gala, which took place last Thursday, was a resounding success for the charity. We were thrilled to be joined by all our guests- who included the evening’s guest of honour, Douglas Flint CBE as well as Sir Tim Rice, Sir Steve Redgrave, Mark Blundell and Kanya King (Founder of the MOBO Awards). We were able to celebrate the work of Making The Leap alongside some of our corporate supporters, companies including HSBC, Franklin Templeton Investments, PwC, The Telegraph Media Group, Pentland Brands and Lansons. Our evening was hosted by Wimbledon commentator and ex-GMTV host, Andrew Castle, whose interviewing skills were put to use when he held a panel discussion with individuals whose lives had been changed by Making The Leap.

Adam, a year 10 pupil from a Wembley school, spoke about how our schools programme had helped to mould him into a different person, a person who was now motivated to work hard to get to where he wanted to be. Next, William talked about how before he came to Making The Leap, he suffered with an overwhelming lack of confidence. After completing our programme for young adults, William is now working for PwC- a firm he previously believed was far beyond his reach. It was inspiring to hear how both Adam and William have learnt motivation and confidence through our support, as well as to aspire to success.

The final speaker of the night was Lewis, who spoke eloquently and passionately about how our support and encouragement helped him successfully transition from prison, to gainful employment and studying part-time at university. Since 2011, we have helped 12,000 young people. The Gala was not only a celebration of Making The Leap’s hard work, but also to fundraise so that we are able to help thousands more young people. We are delighted to announce that the evening exceeded our fundraising target. We are sincerely grateful to all those who attended, for, in doing so, you have helped us to transform young lives and give many more a brighter future.
