Top opportunities at Making The Leap’s Careers Fair!

Nov 30, 2016

On 17th November, we ran another successful careers fair for disadvantaged 16-25 year olds across London. The event not only aimed to introduce this age group to top corporates, but to provide an environment where they could have meaningful interactions, potentially being recruited into positions.

The event, jointly sponsored by The Peter Cruddas Foundation and CMC Markets, was opened by Peter Cruddas himself. The businessman and philanthropist gave an inspiring speech about his difficult upbringing, and how he left school without qualifications to become one of the most successful people in the City.

‘Making The Leap plays a very necessary and fundamental role in the lives of young people.’ – Careers Fair attendee

Attendees met representatives from a wide range of sectors, including the Civil Service, CMS Law Firm, Fremantle Media and Accenture. Making The Leap ran a CV Clinic, pairing up young people with our expert volunteers, as well as seminars throughout the day on various topics, such as goal-setting and assessment centres. The MTL team were on hand to offer advice and guidance to all who attended. We also launched our Snapchat account live at the event, and had our own Geo-Filter made specifically for the fair!

We received some incredible feedback. Not only did young people have the chance to meet leading corporates: they also found they were developing their skills at this event. For example, 90% felt they had improved their confidence from speaking to the employers, and 89% felt they had gained a real insight into what top employers are looking for. Meanwhile, the companies who attended found it valuable: 75% said they would be recruiting as a result of the event, 100% of companies rated the quality of the attendees as ‘Good or ‘Excellent’ and 100% would recommend working with Making The Leap to other companies.
